Hailing from Havana, Cuba, he completed his studies at the prestigious Amadeo Roldán Conservatory, where he received instruction from renowned teachers such as Violeta Hemsy de Gainza, Jorge Luis Prats, Andrés Allen, and Arturo O’Farrill.
His musical influence extends from grand symphonic formats to stylized jazz bands, encompassing intimate chamber settings and immersive jazz trios. Jesús Pupo also excels as a solo pianist and explores a broad spectrum of avant-garde electronic expressions. As an arranger, he brings a unique sensitivity to every project and is particularly distinguished for his interpretation and renewal of traditional Cuban music.
He has composed and arranged music for various musical theater productions, demonstrating his ability to blend narrative and emotion through sound on stage. His cinematic projection has propelled his creations to be synchronized in numerous documentaries and to premiere with the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
A distinguished collaborator, he has shared the stage with artists of the caliber of Omara Portuondo, Francisco Céspedes, Danay Suárez, Richard Bona, Carlos Varela, and the Proyecto Rhythm Portal. He also participated in the Premios Lo Nuestro gala, accompanying Romeo Santos and Gente de Zona.
His album Nevando en La Habana remains one of his most emblematic works a journey that intertwines divine inspiration with natural expression. This success was followed by his jazz-band masterpiece ORO, released under the EGREM Record Label in 2023.
Currently, Jesús Pupo is immersed in the creation of his next musical production, performing internationally with the Richard Bona Asante Trio, and making his Broadway debut in the acclaimed musical Buena Vista Social Club, where he portrays Young Rubén González.
